Earth Hour is celebrated yearly worldwide in more than 130 countries. This 2012, SM Supermalls including SM City Fairview participates in this momentous advocate to save Mother Earth.
The venue was set-up with a tribal motif; many torches were lined as well as beautiful vintage lamps. Aside from the mini stage, there is also a big 60+ Earth Hour symbol at the heart of the stage, projector screen and a modeling ramp.
The Earth Hour event in SM City Fairview was held at Palm Drive. Program started at exactly 8:00 in the evening, just exact to put a small introduction before the turning of the lights.
Mico Aytona, a celebrity host and a Survivor Philippines Castaway, hosted the event. An enthusiastic host perfectly chosen for this program not just to relay the message of the advocacy, but also to entertain us, keep the audience alive and an advocate himself.
As an advocate, Mico Aytona asked the audience how we can contribute to save our planet. He also proposed to roll over at the catwalk if we stop littering :) but wearing his white shirt he had a second thought.
On the event, they played the Official Earth Hour 2012 video, which opened our mind that this advocacy is not just for a day. But we should practice it and contribute even in little ways to help Mother Earth.
"I will if you will", a video made by SM Supermalls to spread a message and challenge the community on what they are willing to do for the environment.
Engr. Dennis Martel, Mall Manager of SM City Fairview, gave a significant message on how SM Supermalls innovates to help and contribute to the environment and community.
Torch lighting initiated by Engr. Martel, Mico Aytona, Baranggay and Political Representatives. This marks the start of the tuning off of the lights.
While the lights are turned off, we were entertained by this tribal combo band as survivor models walked in the ramp with pledges on how each of them can help.
These are the audience on that night. People from different walks of life.
And this is me together with my sister while watching the event.

A picture of me together with Ms. April Dimatulac, Marketing Manager, and Mr. Dan Darang, Marketing Officer, both from SM City Fairview.
Picture taking together with the host, Mico Aytona. My sisters can't miss to take a picture with him.
The Earth Hour 2012 event at SM City Fairview was very successful because it instills new learning and even small ways on how we can minimize the use of our environmental resources and prevent climate change.
I pledge to reduce my usage of plastic bags. I will use re-usable bags or put the things that I bought on my big shoulder bag. You, how will you help Mother Earth?
