Pendy's Napoleones and Halfmoon, Pasalubong from Bacolod City

Who doesn't love sweets..? Most Filipinos loves sweet foods, whether its desserts, cool beverage or even in entree dishes (like Pork Humba or Beef Pares). We crave for sugar!

When we travel we experience the culture, eat sumptuous and local food, and of course take home a little bit of that place. We never go home without a Pasalubong!

I have here some Pasalubong from Negros Occidental Province which is known as the Sugarbowl of the Philippines because it produces more than half of our country's sugar and its capital is Bacolod City.

Bacolod City offers a lot of pasalubong choices and you guess it right... Mostly were sugary delicacies!!! There are a lot of pasalubong centers that you can find in Bacolod City and one of them are Pendy's. Some Negrenses (Negros Occidental local/native) says that the original Napoleones started from Pendy's.

First stop is my all time favorite pasalubong from Bacolod City... Napoleones, this pastry is so heavenly that I crave for it immediately the first time I finished a box! It's a soft flaky pastry filled with a custard cream and topped with frosted icing or sugar.

All I can say is it is just so delicious!!! I really love the combination of the flakiness of the pastry, the so sweet frosting, and the uncomplicated taste and texture of the custard filling. Pendy's Napoleones was sold at ₱160 per box (10 pieces). Be sure to consume it immediately because Napoleones expires in 1 day if not refrigerated immediately and expires in 5 days if refrigerated.

This is also a popular choice in Pendy's... Pendy's Halfmoon Pastry. It is called that way because of its shape. Halfmoon is a fluffy and light sponge cake that is topped with this eye-catching bright yellow egg custard. This yummy pastry cost at ₱50 per piece.

Halfmoon reminded me of Rodilla's Yema Cake from Quezon Province. The Halfmoon's egg custard frosting is more luscious though, because it has a hint of citrus flavor (probably Dayap or Kalamansi), more eggy and creamier, and also sweeter. The sponge cake is a bit airy and dry for me. But still it's worth a try!!! Pendy's Halfmoon expires in 12 hours if not refrigerated immediately and expires in 5 days if refrigerated.

Pendy's was established in 1987, wow it's more than 3 decades and counting! Aside from sweet goodies, Pendy's is also a restaurant. They also offers a wide variety selection of food such as sandwiches, pasta, main dishes like Kare-Kare, Lengua and many more.

Pendy's is located at 25th Lacson Street, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, operating hours is from 7:30am-8pm.

Life is sweet, indulge!
