An old-time favorite Buko Pie with a fabulous twist... Tropical Pie is a combination of the blockbuster Orient-The Original Buko Pie and just the right amount and sweetness of Pineapples!
My family really loves Buko Pie or Young Coconut Pie. But, they have their standards, and on top of their list is Orient-The Original Buko Pie. And which can only be bought at Los Baños, Laguna near UPLB (University of the Philippines Los Baños). So when they went to Pansol, Laguna for a quick weekend getaway, they can't miss to grab Orient Buko Pie for pasalubong.
So how come I got Tropical Pie instead of Buko Pie as their pasalubong for us? Well unfortunately, Buko Pie was already sold-out, ubos, simot! Given that Orient-The Original Buko Pie Bakeshop had opened 2 hours ago since they arrived. So they go for Orient's Tropical Pie, the bakeshop staff informed them that it's just the same Buko Pie with just a little mix of pineapples.
This Tropical Pie is just a pasalubong for me and my husband, and the verdict...??? Drum roll... ... ... We finished the whole pie in less than 24 hours! And that's a statement!
Honestly, I now prefer Orient Tropical Pie than Orient Buko Pie, because it is a little sweeter! You can taste the pineapples but it doesn't overpower the coconut meat. The flaky and soft pastry is just the same as The Original Buko Pie has. Just a perfect snack with a cup of coffee or tea!!!
